  • To provide process and product writing practice of a letter in the context of daily routines

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T display the picture of a man. T: WHAT DO YOU SEE IN THE PICTURE? WHO IS HE? WHAT IS HIS JOB?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T shows the handout " Questions about Mr Reynolds" T: LOOK AT THE QUESTIONS READ THE TEXT QUCKLY AND ANSWER THEM. DO IT ALONE CHECK WITH YOUR PARTNER T reveals the key. T writes on the board "5pm, 4am" T: WHAT ARE AT 5PM AND AT 4AM?(THEY TELL THE TIME?) HOW DO YOU ASK TIME? T writes on the board "What time is it?, What is the time? Have you got time?(informal)" T displays the "Telling the time" image. T goes through the image briefly

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T writes on the board "5pm, 4am" T: WHAT ARE AT 5PM AND AT 4AM?(THEY TELL THE TIME?) HOW DO YOU ASK TIME? T writes on the board "What time is it?, What is the time? Have you got time?(informal)" T displays the "Telling the time" image. T goes through the image briefly. T: WHAT DOES THE SHORT ARM SHOW?(HOURS) WHAT DOES THE LONG ARM SHOW?(MINUTES USE PM BETWEEN 12:00 AND 00:00 USE AM BETWEEN 00:00. LONG ARM POINTS 12 AND SHORT ARM POINTS 2 IT IS 2 O'CLOCK FIRST READ THE MINUTES THEN SAY PAST WHEN LONG ARM POINTS BETWEEN 12 AND 6 THEN SAY THE HOUR. OR SAY THE HOUR FIRST THEN MINUTES FIRST READ THE MINUTES THEN SAY TO WHEN LONG ARM POINTS BETWEEN 6 AND 12. THEN SAY THE HOUR. WHEN THE LONG ARM IS AT 6. IT IS HALF PAST THE HOUR WHEN THE LONG ARM POINTS AT 3 IT IS QUARTER PAST THE HOUR. WHEN THE LONG ARM POINTS AT 9 IT IS QUARTER TO THE HOUR.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills
