In this lesson students will be taught the singular form of to be verbs in yes/no questions and short answers Also job and nationalities will be put in to practice

Materials

  • To provide practice of Jobs, nationalities in the context of countries,occupations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

show the students some pictures of different people and ask questions like " Is he a police officer? " etc to bring the subject to them

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Introduce myself , my country, my nationality, my job and martial status. Write the examples in third person singular on the board. Ask them question like : Is she a teacher? yes she is Is she American? no she isn`t

Language Analysis (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will write the sentences and questions on the board and show them how a question is made, then I will explain the pronunciation of " is, isn`t, Is he, Is she, etc"

Individual Work (3-5 minutes) • To check if students understood the grammar

Explain the activity and a I will give them the handouts and ask them to do task 5 individually and after that we will check the answers together. Next I will move to task 6 and ask them to complete it on their own and then work in pairs to check the answers

Listening (3-5 minutes) • To check the listening ability

Ask students to answer exercise 5 and 6 in pair work and then check the answers

Language Practice1 (6-8 minutes) • To make students practice what they learned and apply their knowledge

Ask them to work in pairs and ask each other questions about their jobs and nationalities then I will ask question in third person singular for example: Is she a doctor?etc

Language Practice2 (8-10 minutes) • to give students more opportunity to practice

Give them handouts of pages 87 and 92 and ask them to work in pairs. They will have the opportunity to have different names, jobs and nationalities
