Description

in this lesson students learn new vocabulary based on a text about extreme interviews adapted from the Sunday times . the lesson starts by pre-teaching some words later, students will elicit meanings of words from the text

Main Aims

  • To provide students with practice in reading for gist and detail, and in deducing meaning from context through a text about extreme interviews

Subsidiary Aims

  • to introduce Ss to vocabulary related to extreme interviews . to give Ss practice in speaking for fluency

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

write 'extreme interviews' on the board ,ask students what it means elicit different answers show Ss the picture from page 6 ,ask the two questions: - what do you think is happening - do you think this question might really be asked in this situation? in pairs: students discuss the questions listen to different answers elicit the words interviewer /interviewee

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

write the words : merely- headhunter-pioneer- stranded ask Ss to think about what could they mean listen to different answers show Ss the words with their meanings

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

give Ss hand out 1 (the text) remind ss of the second question in the warmer Ss read quickly and ascertain the actual answer to the question to check overall understanding f.b Ss check their answers with their partners

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

draw Ss attention to the underlined words demo how to elicit meaning , do the first one as an example ,students do the rest give Ss the gap fill hand out , explain the task students match the words with the meanings F.b a spokesman from each group checks the answers with another group show the correct answers on the board Ss listen to the words and repeat them

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss read the questions from ex g Ss discuss the questions and decide which one would work well in real situation
