family members .
Elementary level level


In this lesson , Students will learn new vocabulary about family and will be able to describe their family members through different activities . This lesson will be focusing on new words presentation and practise and how to make use of them accordingly.

Main Aims

  • -students will be able to memorize family vocabulary to use it on a daily basis.

Subsidiary Aims

  • -Students will be able to improve their knowledge about Family and be able to form sentences when describing their family


Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greetings. -Double check if i still memorize their names. give each one of them my id picture in order to recognize who the person in the picture is . -After they come up with the answer , stick the picture on board and write under the picture Me. - Draw two people next to my id picture and ellicit who they think those people are. - If they have difficulty guessing , try to give them the first letter of the words. Brother would be their answer and that would lead in to the main topic which is Family. -write on top of the board , My family with big letters .

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- show them a family picture on the board and ellicit words they may have encountered or may know by chance, if not present the new vocabulary and write every new world on board so they can check each word's spelling.

Highlighting (5-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- Here comes the drill part in which i will make them repeat the target language written on the Board : Mother - Father - Brother - Sister - Son - Daughter- Grandfather- Grandmother- Aunt - Uncle- Niece- Nephew.

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-In this part , i will write on the board the following sentence , there are 8 people in my Family , i have two brothers , one sister , my mother , my father .my grandmother and my grandfather. then model it Ask each one of them to talk about their families . -

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

At this stage , i am going to show them words that go with each other like : mother and Father then give them the hand out do exercise 1 page 12 Go over the exercise after completing exercise 1, ask them to move to exercise 2 and do it in Pairs . Go over Exercise 2.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

At this stage , i will play the listenning audio to get them familiar with the pronounciation of the words, First , it will be gist listenning , i will ask them just to listen , Second , i will ask them to listen carefully in order to complete exercise 3. - Go over exercise 3.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Draw a Family Tree on the Board. -write under each vocabulary word names of people in my Family . give example : My mother's name is------ My Brother's name is ------- and so on. -Ask them to take a piece of Paper and do the same. -Ask each one of them to stand up and talk about members of their Families.
