In this lesson students will learn about asking about the age of things, using singular and plural 3rd person pronouns. They will also do a speaking exercise to apply TL.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warm up (5-8 minutes) • to gain Sts interest

T shows a picture of a famous Turkish writer ( Orhan Pamuk, aged 61) and ask "who is he? how old is he?" sts try to guess in pairs T writes their answers on WB and the pair with the right answer wins. T continues showing pictures. Next a picture of an old couple (zhang mucheng xu dongying, aged 104) T asks how old are they?" T shows his phone and asks "how old is it?" T shows some old books and asks "How old are they?"

Functional Language (1-2 minutes) • to provide sts with the functional language about asking and answering questions about age.

T makes a WC and individual drill for "How old is it? It's 10 years old./How old are you? I'm 25 years old."

Grammar (3-5 minutes) • To provide clarification of singular and plural 3rd person subject pronouns for things and people

T shows the model sentences T elicits the pronouns used for each. Then asks CQs to convey the meaning. Is the phone a thing or a person? a thing. What do we use? it. Are the books things or people? things. What do we use? They. Are Zhang and Xu people? Yes. What do we use? They then T writes the form on WB: Singular: He,She, It Plural: They

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide practice in singular and plural 3rd person subject pronouns in the context of Age

T chests the exercise. Use "He,She,It" for the underlined words T does an example Feedback: in pairs, then early finishers write their answers on WB, then WC feedback.

Speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide fluency speaking practice in a qustionnaire in the context of age

T chests the HO Prepare your answers under 'Me' Prepare your questions under 'Partner?' Walk around the room, ask and collect answers

Feedback (5 minutes) • To provide sts with feedback on their progress

T monitors and collect some mistakes T writes some on the board and elicits the correction
