Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Grammar 1 & 2 Display a picture of 2 friends on WB from PwrPt. Display questions on WB from PwrPt. Ss in PW to answer questions about their friends (personalized). Monitor - don't interfere but note if there is any problem lexis to deal with later. Take FB from 3 Ss.

Exposure (9-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Grammar 3 - Gapfill Ss working in pairs to make 10 questions. Tell Ss they have 2 min to read for gist. Demonstrate the 1st question. Check understanding. "Are you filling in the gaps?" "What are you doing?" Tell Ss they have 5 minutes to make sentences in order to fill in the gaps. Monitor and help if needed. Passively check for errors to correct at a later time. WC FB, Ss correcting Ss. Display correct questions afterwards.

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Grammar Box on WB from PwrPt. Distinguish between present simple and past simple. Check understanding. What goes before the subject?, What comes after the subject?, etc. Elicit other tenses from Ss. If no response, give a few examples of other tenses. Present continuous, can, will, etc. Ss taking notes.

Controlled Practice (9-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Grammar 4 Ss doing PW. Tell students to use the 10 questions from before and work in pairs to complete the paragraph. Check understanding. "Are you filling in the gaps? Are you working individually?" Demonstrate the 1st if necessary. Monitor and help if needed. Passively check for errors to correct at a later time. Display paragraph on WB from the computer and elect a S to come to the WB to fill in the gaps. Ss correcting Ss.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Speaking 1 Ss working in pairs. Ask Ss to work in pairs and correct the sentences. Monitor and help if needed. Display questions on WB from the computer and elect a S to come to the WB to fill in the gaps. Ss correcting Ss.

Semi-Controlled Practice (12-13 minutes) • To concept check further

Speaking 2 Ss working in groups of 4. Drill Ss with the corrected questions from the previous task. Tell Ss that they are role playing. Ss are to read their text that is based on the image from the 1st lesson of today. Ask Ss to use the corrected sentences from the previous task (currently displayed on WB) to ask one another questions. They will answer the question: "Who will Christine contact first?" Monitor and help if needed. Passively check for fluency errors. WC FB from 4 Ss.
