Main Aims

  • To provide product and process writing practice of a Diary in the context of Meeting your best friend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for Functions of sequence

Procedure

Lead in (7-7 minutes) • To generate interest in the theme of the lesson

Project some pictures of my best friend and I to generate interest in the topic and ask them if they have a best friend. Show pictures of a diary and elicit the word. Show a real diary.

Preparing to write (9-9 minutes) • To provide ideas to write about. To provide an opportunity to prepare for the task. To provide an opportunity to organize their ideas logically and take notes. To provide learners with a model of the task.

Ask them to work in 2 or 3 groups to put the cut up diary in order. Then ask them to read alone the diary and in pairs answer the gist question.

Useful language (12-12 minutes) • To provide and clarify language which learners may find useful for completing the writing.

Highlight the functional exponents of time and explain their sequence. Ask students to work in 2 groups and match the sentences to their appropriate sequence exponent. Then, clarify that these functional exponents can be replaced.

Writing task (15-15 minutes) • For learners to practice their written fluency in relation of a diary about the first day they met their best friend

Ask students to close their eyes and make them imagine their past situation with their best friend. Then, ask them to write a diary about the first day they met their best friend following some questions. At the end they will stick them in the board and choose the funniest diary.

Feedback error correction on written task (3-3 minutes) • To allow learners to compare results if the task. To provide content feedback on results of the task. To provide language feedback based on the task

After closing the funniest diary student will stick it in the board. I will read the whole diary and get students to correct its sentences if they were wrong.
