Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to have a fluent conversation in the context of travel. The class starts by setting a lead in through a video about travel and tourism. The students will then have one or 2 speaking activities. They will then have a writing practice in the same context. At the end their will be an error correction through the WCFB and eliciting.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of an advert in the context of cities
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of cities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start by projecting a picture of a lost woman in a city and then telling them my story about when i first came to turkey and how i struggled with asking people questions and knowing places. After this i will ask them if this happened to them.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through modelling

The teacher will model a conversation between her and one of the students as a tourist in the city asking for places around the city.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The teacher will highlight the target language she used in the modeled conversation above on the board. she will highlight intonation and then drill with the class.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Teacher will pair up the class and hand each pair 2 lists of questions. One for A, and one for B. Students will start asking and answering those questions. after a while, students switch lists and start asking each other those question.

Speaking #2 for fluency (8-10 minutes) • To provide further practice for conversation

The teacher will model an ad on the board about her own country. Read it out for the students. And then ask them to write an ad of their own about their favorite town or city. They're given a 5 minute time limit. After that the students will get up and mingle. Advertising their own towns to each other. Then there will be a WCFB

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher will have done some monitoring around the class and noted down some of the errors the students had made. So those errors will be written on the board. then the teacher will elicit, and drill the correct forms.
