Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Like, love, hate, don’t like V+ing in the context of Likes and dislikes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Things you like and don’t like
  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Things you like and don’t like in the context of Favorite things

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-9 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss what their favorite city,color sports,film, is? Ss ask T the same questions? Show them the PowerPoint photos. Tell them these are things I like or don’t like Pair Ss Stick photos on the walls Hand out the meanings Ss match the meanings with pictures on the walls Ss PW check Give them the answers with drills

Test #1 (5-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Stick sticky man’s happy and unhappy on the B Elicit the meaning of love , hate , like and don’t like Show PowerPoint photos again without vocabulary this time Ss will come to the B and write the vords below each picture Model a sentence for them “ I like animalls , I hate soap operas,” Ss make 6 sentences using the words they remember with I like .... , I love... , I hate ... Ss check in pairs

Teach (5-7 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Write a model sentence on the B Elicit what the form of the verb is after like , love Show them the PowerPoint 2 which is about grammar Hand out gap fill practice Ss complete the sentences using the example Ss check in pairs Ss give FB to the class

Test #2 (5-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss check if their sentences they wrote in diagnostic stage are correct. Ss write 3 true sentences and 3 false sentences about their likes and dislikes . Ss play a guess game in pairs to see if their partners sentences are true or false .

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Name Ss A and B Ss A have HO A and Ss B have HO B Ss write 6 questions with “ do you like ...” for the things in column A of the tabel Ss B do the same on their own Ss A stand up find Ss B and interview each other’s
