Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows the pictures of news articles and elicits. T asks SS a) Where do you see these pictures? b) What is this? c) Where is this? d) What do you think happened? T elicits

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows pictures of helicopter, storm, coast, a person sailing a boat, lottery and an envelope. T asks SS about these pictures and elicits. T drills unfamiliar words. Coast Storm Lottery Envelope Sail T shows the picture of a person buying lottery T shows different numbers in lottery tickets. T asks SS Do you know who and which number will win when you take a lottery? From where do you buy lottery tickets T asks SS different types of news sources and elicits Then T shows the titles and asks to match with the picture.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T groups SS to A and B. Then gives one news article to A and another news article to B. And asks to underlined unknown vocabulary. Drills unfamiliar words. T asks SS to work in pairs. T asks student A, to ask partner questions a - e. Then T asks student B, to ask partner questions 1-5.

While-Reading/Listening (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T shows SS a video to watch and listen to four conversation about the news and asks to match out each new stories with each conversation. T gives a work sheet of matching conversations with responses to do in pairs. T asks SS to fill the table by writing the responses based on the task done earlier.

Post-Reading/Speaking (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T gives a gap filling worksheet and asks SS to do it in pairs. T back chains the sentences given and drills individually and chorally. T asks SS to to do a role play as free practice based on the restricted situation of train crash and eighty year old couple missing.
