Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel essentials

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts by sticking some tags on the board with names of items essential for travelling written on them the class will be divided into 3 teams and stand in 3 lines. the teacher will set a competition and have a race between them. The teacher calls out an item name and the students have to run and grab that name from the board. The team with the most name tags wins

Pre-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

after the tag game is over. The teacher elicits whatever words the students couldn't understand from the words.

While listening (gist) #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to a dialogue between a man and his wife on the way to the airport and answer in pairs 2 questions that will be projected on the board.

While-Listening (listening for details) #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

the students will listen to the dialogue again. This time answering a couple of questions about what they've heard also in pairs. They will then have the script in their hands to check their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

now that the listening part is over. The students will be regrouped into different pairs and start practicing the dialogue among themselves.
