Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to identify the uses of like and use it appropriately.

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To engage students and elicit ideas

T asks ss to think of ways they use the worrd like in their everyday conversation.learners think of as many ways they can use the word. elicit and write all their ideas on the board.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text from previous lesson

Draw ss attention on the use of like as a verb and a preposition. Tell ss to underline all the like in ex. 9a and decide if it is used as a verb or a preposition in the sentences from the text. Ss write their answers by each sentence. Let ss compare their answers in pairs. Get feedback from whole class.

Language analysis (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention on the uses of like as a verb or preposition

Focus ss attention on the uses of like as a verb from the active grammar box. Ss read an example. Ask ss to match the sentence from 9a with the use of like from the box.(statement B). check answer with WC. Focus ss attention again on the uses of like as a preposition from the active grammar box. Ss match the sentences from 9a with the different uses of like in the box. Allow ss to peer check, get feedback from WC.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask ss to complete the dialogue in ex 10 using expressions with like. Monitor to check any difficulties, ss compare their answers. Get feedback from the whole class.

Freer Practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with freer practice of the target language

T asks ss to ask questions about a place they have visited before. T models an example with ss. Ss work in pairs to talk about their places and ask follow-up questions. Monitor and take note of any important error. Get feedback from ss . Discuss any errors noted.
