Description

In this lesson learners learn about adjectives to describe houses ,flats and neighborhoods through a text and visuals.The focus is on language that is vocabulary along with meaning ,form and pronunciation clarification followed by a writing task.

Materials

Abc visuals,text,H/O

Main Aims

  • To practice and clarify vocabulary(adjectives to describe houses,flats and neighborhood) here as the TL.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a controlled and freer written practice using the TL,a shift from receptive lexis to productive lexis.

Procedure

Stage 1:Lead in/Building Context (5-10 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic and to elicit Ss' background knowledge of the TL.

T shows the pictures of two different places asking Ss which one they prefer to stay in for a two-week holiday and why to elicit the Ss' Knowledge of adjectives to describe locations. T sets the task by forming pairs and asking each pair to think and to talk about their preference. T asks ICQs and sets a time limit.

Stage 2:Presentation/Contextualization (5-10 minutes) • To provide the Ss with more authentic exposure to the TL thorugh a text practicing reading sub-skill ,scanning.

T sets the task preparing the pairs to do the task to introduce the TL in a text about an apartment in Budapest. T gives the instruction to the task, sets a time limit and talks about its aim. T asks ICQs. T distributes the worksheets and runs the task. Ss scan the text to find the answers to the Qs noticing the TL contextualized. Ss change partners discussing their answers . Ss read the answers and check with the whole class.

Stage 3:Presentaion 2/Highlighting the TL (3-5 minutes) • To higlight the TL for the learners to focused on

T sets another task to get students' attention to the TL in the text . T gives the directions ,sets a time limit. T asks ICQs . T runs the task. T gives the H/O .(matching adjectives presented in the text with the definitions). Ss work together and share with partners. T asks CCQs to check the meaning. T gets feedback by showing the answers asking about the number of correct answers.

Stage 4:Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To calrify the MFP

T shows some other pics to expand and to elicit the TL . T shows the TL for each picture . T asks CCQs to clarify the meaning of each adjective. T gets the Ss' attention to the meaning,form and pronunciation. T shows the phonemic transcription with the stress pattern. Ss practice pronunciation chorally and individually.

Stage 5:Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide a chance for Ss to have freer practice using the TL in writing and speaking

To have controlled written practice and to get feedback the T arranges the pairs . T gives instructions to the task and asks ICQs. T shows pictures of different places asking Ss to describe it using the TL. Ss say an adjective for each scene on the board. T sets another activity with the aim of written practice . T shows Ss a text about a Beach Villa in Kusadasi and asks Ss to replace the word nice with adjectives from the list. Ss are asked to write 4 paragraphs describing their living place (flat,house and neighborhood) using the TL and to tell their partner about it. Ss sticks their papers on the board for others to.
