TP4 - Shopping Mall

Description

In this lesson, Ss will start by describing the pictures on the board and asnwering a couple of questions orally. The lesson will then move on to the ordinal numbers and what they're used for. A couple of exercises related to ordinal numbers will be done in class followed by a listening activity and some vocabulary to be revised.

Main Aims

  • Students will be doing listening activities on ordinal numbers

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will learn vocabulary related to ordinal numbers and names of some places within a shopping mall

Procedure

Stage 1 (2-3 minutes) • Lead in

. T shows Ss 3 pictures of a shopping mall and asks them what these places are called . T will then start a short talk on the things they could do in a shopping mall, what they can buy and if they like shopping or not . T introduces the topic "shopping malls"

Stage 2 (8-10 minutes) • Introduce ordinal numbers and complete related exercises

" Does anyone know what ordinal numbers are?" If Ss don't reply, T says " 1st, 2nd, 3rd... these are called ordinal numbers. Do you know why they're used?" (to say the order of something - gesture with hand) . Ss do ex. 1 individually - match the words to the ordinal numbers . Ss pair check followed by WCF . Drill each number for pronunciation " Let's play a game. I will write numbers on the board and you will tell me which ordinal number it is."

Stage 3 (4-5 minutes) • to listen for ordinal numbers and choose the correct option

" you will now do a listening activity. I will give you a paper with numbers. Underline the words you hear." .T gives out the papers and plays the recording . Recording will be played again if Ss ask for it . Pair check followed by WCF . T asks some of the Ss to read and pronounce the ordinal numbers

Stage 4 (10-15 minutes) • practice using ordinal numbers

. T checks for words such as car park, cinema, restaurants, women's clothes shops, and supermarket through asking for definitions. If students can't reply, T elicits and Ss choose the word from the list .T elicits "information desk" " If your at a shopping mall and you want to watch a movie but you don't know where the cinema is. You have to ask someone. Where do you go?" "Now I will give you a HO. There is a picture of a shopping mall and the places inside it. For example, there is car park, cinema, etc. You will work with a partner. One of you will ask "what floor is the cinema on?". CCQ: so is he asking about the place of the cinema or not? . T writes the sentence on the board and drills "Your partner will look at the picture, find the cinema and look at what floor it is in. He then says " the cinema is on the ... floor". . T writes the reply on the board and drills . T distrubtes HO and demonstrates with a student . Ss check answers as a group . WCF

Stage 5 (3-4 minutes) • Learning vocabulary

"We will now do another exercise. In this HO, there are 7 words and 7 pictures. You will match the words with the correct picture." .Ss work individually but check with pairs followed by WCF . Drill during feedback

Stage 6 (2-3 minutes) • Listen and tick the words they hear

" We will listen to a new recording now. Tick the words that you hear from exercise 1 (gesture)." . HO are distributed and T plays the recording. Listen to the recording for a second time if needed . Pair check followed by WCF

Stage 7 (3-4 minutes) • Listen and match with the places in ex.1

. " We will listen to the recording again. This time you will match the words in ex.1 with the sentences here (gesture)." . T dgives out HO and plays the recording (twice if needed) . Pair check followed by WCF
