Upper Intermediate - B2 level

Description

In this lesson, students will be taking the "so and such... that" grammar. The context will have been set from the reading lesson before. So after the lead in activity to remind them what of the context again, The lesson starts with the teaching eliciting the grammar from the students. followed by some exercises and self-designed activities. as an ending they will have speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of using So\Such\Such a in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation and writing personalized examples in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher starts by asking the students to tell her quickly what they've generally discussed in the previous session. After that the teacher will ask the a couple of students or two to tell the class of a funny story or an incident that happened to them while traveling.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher writes down 3 sentences on the WB and elicit the meaning of the sentences from the students.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher will explain the structure and concept of the grammar and highlight the sequence. And then the teacher will give and elicit examples.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher gives out a gap filling exercise, sets a time limit of 5 mins and make the students work in pairs. Then make them group up in 4s and check their answers. Teacher then hands out an answer sheet for the students for a final check. and then there'll be a WCFB

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

teacher groups students into 3 or 4 groups, writes (such, such a, and so) on the board and gives them colored cards with some examples and have them match it on the board. group who finished first wins

Pre-Speaking (4-5 minutes) • Set the concept of the speaking activity to the students

Teacher puts the class in groups of 3s and asks them to write down 3 examples about themselves using today's grammar and they cannot use the same grammar twice. Sets a time of 3 minutes. After they're done, the group that has all correct examples wins.

Free Practice - Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher hands the students a list of questions ask them to talk to each other about those questions. Teacher demonstrates the instructions to the students. and then lets them start. Students will walk around with the list of questions asking each other.
