In this plan learners will focus on developing speaking skills related tot he topic of fashion. At the end of the lesson they will be comfortable giving their opinion on fashion styles and dress codes

Procedure

Lead in (5 minutes) • To activate students' existing knowledge of the topic

Teacher " I like you to guess what I am showing you" Teacher models the coming activity; gestures until students understand 'earring' and 'hat'. Then teacher nominates a student to come forward and tells the group to guess what he/she is showing them. If it is too hard without words they can also talk without using the exact words. Teacher shows student an image to show the class. . Different students get to do the mime game.

Useful language (3 minutes) • To provide and clarify language which learners may find useful for completing the speaking task.

Teacher elicits a few words the ss will need later on in the lesson by the means of pictures and if necessary, descriptions

Speaking task (20 minutes) • For learners to practice their oral fluency in relation to clothing, fashion, ...

Teacher projects 6 photo's on the WB. For each photo, the students have to discuss the following question with their partner: At what age do you think it is OK for men or women to have.....(see photo) Every 1 minuted teacher changes photo. Then students change partners, a new question and a new series of photo's: In what situation do you think it is not OK to wear.... (see photo) Discuss with your partner. Teacher changes photo every 1 minutes. Teacher hands out papers with a dress code on it. The students have to go find the other people with their dress code. In group please discuss if you agree or not with these statements. 7 statements are given for each group to discuss.

Feedback (5 minutes) • To allow learners language feedback based on the task

Feedback: Teacher asks one student: Whose opinion would you like to hear on this statement? Students ask for each other's opinion until everyone has spoken and told us his/her opinion about one of the photo's

Speaking task (5 minutes) • To provide the learners with vocab practice and speaking practice

Teacher hands out matching exercise, students get 2 minutes to match the sentences. Then the students read out the matching sentences. The next student has to read both sentences in the negative. Students read all sentences.

Written task (6 minutes) • For learners to practice their writing skills on the topic of fashion and clothing

The students get a handout with an image of a piece of clothing on. They have to imagine they were given this piece for their birthday and they don't like it so they want to sell it on Ebay. They will write an advert that makes it sound attractive, Also put a price on it. Feedback, go around the room and decide which item you would buy.
