Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about school stuff
  • To listen for specific information in the context of school stuff

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the ability by asking with can you see?

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson with (a memory game), I will show ss eight flash cards of school items e.g. ruler, pencil, rubber etc. I will stick them on the board then will ask ss to close their eyes. I will pick up one flash card and ask ss to open their eyes and say which is missing. Then I will repeat this game several times and choose different item in each time

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will try to elicit the meaning of three words from ss (cake - yellow - ruler). Then I ask CCQs to check their understanding then giving them the form, making a model, highlighting and drilling as a whole class then individually.

While Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist

Activity: Ex 1 * Ss listen and answer the two questions in 90 seconds in pairs: How many people are talking? What are they talking about? * Open class feedback

While Listening #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Activity: Ex 2 * Ss will be given a picture which contains a lot of different items. * They will listen and circle what they hear individually. * They have 3 minutes to do this activity. * They check their answers with their partners in one minute. * Open class feedback

Controlled practice (3-5 minutes) • To practice using the new vocab

Activity: Ex 3 * Ss will have three missing parts * They complete the missing parts with the correct answers * They do this individually in three minutes, then check their answers with their partners * Open class feedback

Post Listening #Speaking (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Activity: Making dialogues * I will ask for a volunteer to come to the board * I will make a model dialogue with him. * I ask can you see..........? one question with something in the class and the other question with something isn't in the class. After that, he asks me * Then I ask them to make dialogues between them asking each other * Content/language feedback and correction errors.

#kagan structure- Mix-pair-share (3-5 minutes) • To build a class society

* Ss stand up then move quietly around the class * Ss wait until the teacher says "find a partner" * Each ss find the nearest partner to him and greet each other * The student who hasn't found a partner yet, raises his hand * T gives ss a question (Imagine that you are in a beautiful graden, what will you see) * T give 5 seconds to think * T identify who starts * Each partner takes his time, 60 seconds, to share with (Timed-pair-share) * Open class feedback
