Description

In this lesson, my students are going to learn about how to describe people using negative and positive adjectives.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice about how to describe a person in the context of describing a person.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a decribing a person in the context of describing a person.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-I will start by asking my students do you have a best friend or soulmate? -Did you have any problems between both of you before and stop talking for a while? -which one starts apologizing first or talking? I will show them a cartoon video explains this internal conflict? After that, i will ask them to have you ever felt like this before? I will ask them to speak with their friends about such a situation and how's started with apologizing?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-I will give each one of my students a text and ask them to read it quickly then ask them to answer the first 2 questions. - I will ask them to discuss the answers in pairs then feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- I will ask them to read the text again then answer the questions to highlight the negative and positive adjectives and how to use it and what are the adverbs which are used before it and what is its usage? After highlighting the target language I will move to the clarification stage.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will tell my students to tell me a sentence including good adjectives about Amanda. I will on the board, for example, She is pretty extroverted. I will ask them what does pretty mean in this sentence? Is it mean beautiful or quite? What do you think it's an adjective or an adverb? Then I will tell them that adverbs are used to describe adjectives, verbs... I will give them another example: She is extremely hard working. So we use pretty/ very/ ... + positive adjective. We use a Little + Negative adjective. for example, She is a little messy. Also, i will tell them how to say things that he loves and this he good at such as: He loves/likes/ doesn't mind +v+ing. He is good at +v+ing. - I will start showing them its form then clear the board and ask them to repeat after me.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will divide my students into 2 teams and ask them that they are now in a competition I will give each team a piece of paper including adjectives I want them to divide it into positive and negative adjectives then they going to write 4 sentences using the language they have learned. They re going to choose 2 positive adjectives and 2 negative and but each one of them in a sentence. I will set time and the team which will finish earlier with correct answers will be the winner After that, iam going to give them feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Imagin that you are recommending your friend in a job discuss with your partner what are you going to say about your friend the advantages and the disadvantages about him.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about their best friend using the language they have learning and to describe them as much as they can once the first students finish the second will start. I will listen to them and correct their mistakes.
