Description

Teacher starts by an act it out game related to their previous lessons about illnesses as a warmer. After that is done. The teacher ask them a couple of questions as a lead in for the vocab. Students read for gist and then the Teacher pre-teaches any blocking vocab. after the detailed reading the teacher teaches the vocabulary now that the context is set. and to wrap things up the students will have an activity for further practice of vocab.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher calls one student to the board and hands him a single card with a word on it (related to their previous lessons about illness and injury) and asks them to elicit the word from the class. This is done with 2 or 3 students. The teacher then elicits the word Hypochondriac to the class through PPP.

Gist Reading (2-3 minutes) • To give students a general idea about the text

Teacher writes a single title on the board and have students discuss in pairs what it talks about. And then they give feedback

Pre-teaching vocab (3-5 minutes) • To enable the students to do the task

Elicits the vocab from the students through PPP. After the vocab is elicited teacher highlights the pronunciation and does CCQs.

While-Reading\ Reading for details (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students grouped into 4s and the teacher hands them a hand out with a matching articles and topic sentences exercise and sets a time limit of 5 minutes and make them start. After all is done they give a group feedback

Pronunciation (8-10 minutes) • To fix the pronunciation of the word in the students minds.

Teacher asks students to tell her what words they found hard to read\say. Teacher drills the pronunciation of the most difficult words and has students say it individually.

Vocabulary (7-10 minutes) • To highlight the target language of the lesson

Teacher gives a Vocab-highlighting exercise to the students and sets a time limit of 5 to 7 minutes. Students do it in pairs, switch partners and peer check. The class then gives a group feedback to the teacher

Freer Practice (7-10 minutes) • Encourage students to use the vocab in a more personalized fashion

Teacher pairs up students and asks them to write a short dialogue as between a doctor and a patient, tells them to use at least 5 words from today's vocab and sets a time limit of 7 minutes. teacher then has 2 or 3 pairs read it out to the whole class.
