Description

In this lesson students will learn about REPORTED SPEECH through guided discovery based on reading about the story of Michael and Harry Findlater. The lesson will start with an easy game for practicing reported speech. Students will provided with the context of AN AMAZING STORY (about Michael and Harry Findlater).The production of the lesson will be achieved through guided practice and free practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the reported speech in the context of telling stories

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about an amazing story of Michael and Harry Findlater

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

(Set an easy game for practicing reported speech) *Stand by having the class make a circle. *Ask the person on your right a question(any question). *Use a reported speech to tell the student on your left what you learned. *Each player has to add one more link to the reported speech chain. *Keep playing until your class make it all the way around.

Exposure (5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Give students the text parts of an amazing story about the two brothers Michael and Harry Findlater .

Highlighting (7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask students to work in pairs to do exercise B and identify the type of speech used in the sentences,then ask them to do exercise C to transform the indirect(reported speech) into direct speech.

Clarification (5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Apply the language analysis of the lesson

Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask students to work in pairs to do exercise D

Free Practice(Productive activity) (5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the reported speech

Ask students to do exercise E
