Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of language used for making, accepting and refusing an invitation in the context of party

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a making, accepting and refusing an invitation
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about making, accepting and refusing an invitation in the context of party

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students: Have you got any friends? How many friends have you got ? Do you know all of them well?

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will explain to the students that: In this conversation a girl called Rose is calling her friends to invite them to the cinema. Read and listen to Rose speaking to four friends and determine which friend doesn't she know very well.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask the students to: read the conversation again, look at the highlighted useful phrases and find what each point requires. I will ask them to check their answers together. I will give them the feedback.

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will use flashcards to clarify the meaning and the form. Then, I will ask them to listen to the recording and repeat the useful phrases.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask them to choose the correct answer.

Free Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask the students to work with their partners to write a conversation based on the mentioned situation.
