Friendship lesson

Description

In this lesson, students learn some new lexis through a guided discovery based on a reading text. The lesson starts with a song followed by a discussion about friendship. Then, students will read a text about two friends and answer some questions about it. They will learn some new vocabularies through this text. After that, there will be a game to test their friendships. Finally, there will be a discussion about their best and worst memories with their best friends followed by a feedback and correction for their mistakes.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in conversations and discussions in the context of friendship.

  • To provide clarification and practice of new words in the context of friendship.
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about kidney transplant in the context of friendship.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson with an old song about friendship, and I will use it to start a discussion about this topic. I will ask the students if they know the song and what they think about its topic. I will also ask them If they think that Romio is a good friend or not and why.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading.

This will be done through a reading text. I will teach them some new lexis before reading the text to make it easier for them to understand the text. This will be done during a task. They will work in pairs and match every word to its definition. Then, I will give them a feedback. I will use some CCQs to check their understanding of these lexis and they will repeat the lexis after me. Then, they will read a text about a friend who donated her kidney for her best friend and they will answer some questions about some details. They will check their answers in pairs and with me. After that, they will have conversations to discuss whether they have such loyal friends or not.

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

This will be done during the pre reading stage. I will teach them some new vocabularies that will make it easier for them to understand the text, and this will be done through a task. They will work in pairs and match the words to their definitions. Then, I will give them a feedback. I will use some CCQs to check their understanding of the newly learned vocabularies. After that, they will repeat the words after me.

Productive Task(1) (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

We will have a game; We will test their friendships. We will choose randomly two persons each time. One of them will ask the other a hard question about her best friend, and that will show us who is a true friend and who is not.

Productive Task(2) (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

We will have a discussion together. Everyone will speak about his best and worst memories with her friends.

Feedback and error correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will write some sentences with mistakes on the board and ask them to identify the errors and correct them.
