Procedure (43-30 minutes)
T asks Ss the following questions: -have you visited the same doctor your whole life? -have you ever used first aid? -how long have you known "Yavooz"? : two weeks / two months / two years! T then chooses the person who has known him the longest and asks: -have you been visiting him or another doctor?
T sets the scene and tells students about the context of the listening: "You are going to listen to a doctor and a patient. INS: Listen and tell me what are: -the symptoms -what does the doctor suggest? -what kind of patient is he? ICQ: how many questions will you answer? F/B: ask the Ss to peer check and do an open pair. T chests H/O.1 and tells Ss: "I'm going to give you a handout about the listening. I want you to listen and fill in the blanks" ICQ: What is the listening about? ICQ: What are you going to do? FB: T asks groups of Ss to check their answers together.
T puts the following marker senteces on the board: - I haven't been feeling well for a few days. - I have taken my temperature 5-6 times today. And asks: "Tell me the difference between these sentences" "Why do we use present perfect / present perfect continuous?" "What is the difference between these sentences?" T distributes H/O.2 to the Ss and asks them to do the task together and takes feedback. T plays the audio: INS.: "listen and tell me what do the nurse and the doctor think of him?"
T chests H/O.3 and: INS.: "I want you to underline the correct form" And models ex a, number 1. FB: T asks Ss to peer check the answers.
T chests H/O.4 and asks the Ss INS.: "I want you to read the questions on the handout and ask and answer them one by one." T models the first ex.: "Notice how if the first question is in present tense, the second question will be in ...what form?" "If the first question is in the continuous form, the second question is in ...what form?" ICQ: "Do you write answers or tell them?" ICQ: "Do all of you ask questions?" T monitors as Ss speak. FB: T takes a WCFB.
T asks the Ss to stand up and form two lines in front of each other. T then calls one line the "doctors" and the other line, the "patients". T grabs a plastic bag containing various illnesses and asks the patients to take one each, and pretend they are visiting the doctor and try to explain how they "HAVE BEEN FEELING" and what they "HAVE DONE" about it. T monitors as Ss speak.
