Description

In this lesson, students will develop their listening skills by listening to an interview with a person who started eating unusual things when he was young and ended up being a chef, who runs a famous restaurant. Then, students will have interviews with each other about food and restaurants.

Materials

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, learners will have practiced their listening for gist and detail in the context of running a restaurant.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To revise vocabulary in the context of running a restaurant.

Procedure

Lead in (3-6 minutes) • To activate Ss' existing knowledge of the topic and to generate interest in the topic of the lesson.

T will ask Ss to discus in pairs what and where they eat and he handles Ss EX 5.A to use the questions from it. Then, T will ask Ss to talk about their partners.

Predictiction task (1-2 minutes) • To encourage Ss to predict about content of the text and give them a reason to read the text.

T will show Ss photos on the WB and ask Ss CCQs about the photos to encourage Ss to predict the content of the text and give them a reason to get more information about it.

Pre-teach vocabulary (5-10 minutes) • To unblock key lexis needed to help students understand the text.

T will divide the students into two groups, group A and group B . T will give group A the photos and group B the definitions. T will give Ss time to read the definitions.Then, students should match between the photos and their definitions.

Listening for gist (5-10 minutes) • To encourage Ss to listen for general understanding.

T will ask Ss to work in pairs to read the small text, then he tells the Ss that when they listen the first time, they should just try to get a general understanding of what Steve says and number the photos in the order that they are mentioned. After that, T asks Ss ICQs, then T plays the audio, then he checks answers.

Listening for detail (6-10 minutes) • To practice listening for detailed comprehension.

T tell the Ss that they are going to listen to part B of the interview and answer EX. 5D. T asks Ss ICQs, then plays the audio. T can play the audio again if necessary and pause after each question is answered to give Ss time to make their notes.

Speaking task (5-7 minutes) • To allow an opportunity to react to the text.

T handles the questions of EX 5.E to Ss and puts Ss into pairs to answer EX 5.E. T asks ICQs. After T gives Ss time to answer, he gets the feedback from individual pairs.
