Description

In this lesson, students learn about writing short stories in the context of gratitude through a guided discovery based on watching videos. The lesson starts with a discussion about gratitude and happiness followed by a video about this subject. Then, They will watch another video of a story in the context of gratitude. After that, there will be a writing competition among the students. They will write short stories about gratitude. Finally, There will be evaluation for their stories and correction to their mistakes.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will make a discussion about happiness and gratitude. Then, I will teach them some new lexis to make it easier to understand the following video. I will make a task. They will answer it in pairs. They will match some words to their definitions. Then, I will discuss the answers with them. After that, I will play a video about gratitude, and they will answer some questions about the video. They will check their answers in pairs, and I will discuss the answers with them.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will play another video of a short story about gratitude.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The students will answer some questions about the tenses that used in the story, and about the certain way of writing the story. Then, they will check their answers together, and I will discuss the answers with them.

Productive Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will make a writing competition among the students. They will write their short stories about gratitude. Then, They will stick their stories to the walls, and have a gallery walk to choose the best one. We will choose a winner, and he will get a present.

Feedback and Error Correction (1-2 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will write some sentences with mistakes on the board, and I will ask the students to identify these errors and correct them.
