Description

In this lesson, students will learn about a funny and crazy kind of dictionary called Devil's Dictionary.Also, they will learn lexis which are related to this topic, with exercises to follow to clarify what they have learned. They will also have reading practice in the context of Devil's Dictionary.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed information reading practice using a text about a different kind of dictionary in the context of Devil's Dictionary.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of vocabulary in the context of the Devil's Dictionary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will see some pictures about the Devil's Dictionary and its author and I will ask them some questions such as : do you know this person? , what is this? and can you guess the relationship between this person and the second picture.Finally, I tell them some information about the pictures.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To pre-teach students vocabulary that may be troublesome in the reading task.

I will give students a paper which includes some difficult words in the reading text and their definitions and I will ask them to match every word with its definition and then discuss in pairs the answers and after that I will ask some questions to check their understanding. After each word students repeat to practice pronunciation.

Pre-Reading (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

Students will see some pictures which show the funny definition of a dentist according to the Devil's Dictionary and also a sentence which is written on a wall chart and I will ask them to look at these pictures and the written sentence and give me the answer of my questions and complete the sentence with the right word.

Gist-Reading (2-3 minutes) • To give Ss chance to identify and understand the main idea.

I will ask them to read the text quickly to answer ex.b which checks Ss understanding for the main idea of the passage

While -Reading (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with the more challenging detailed,deduction, and inference reading task.

Firstly. I will ask students to read the text again to answer ex.c which will focus on specific information and more details.I will ask them to discuss their answers in small groups.Finally,I will check the answers with the students and give them feedback after the activity.

Post-Reading (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with an apportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

I will ask students to do the task" d' on the paper by fillinig the blanks with the given words but before doing that I will do with the students number 1 to make the task easy and clear.Finally, I will ask students this question: what is the benefits of using this dictionary

Post-Reading (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with an apportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.
