Description In this lesson, students will practice reading for details as sub-skill of reading. They will answer some questions about Arthur Conan Doyel. also This is followed by matching activity in which they learn how to use the contextual cluse to define the new vocabulary. Finally, Students practise speaking.They are using them in freer speaking practice as a productive skill.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about Scandal in Bohemia.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice about Sharlok Holmes .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll show students some pictures for Taha Hussin and Arthur Conan Doyle then I'll ask them to identify the two pictures ,then I will ask them: 1-Who are they? 2- What similarities between them? Feedback: T asks Ss to Work in pairs and discusses your thoughts and then share with the whole group the idea....

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T. asks students to focus their attention on the text and the picture of the text.Then Students check some new words such as determination,Scottish ,aristocrat and fictional. Feedback: T discusses with Ss some information and new words about the text.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Task 1 and 2 : T guides the students to scan-read the text, and tries to find answers for the questions they have students answers them. Then To clarify the meaning of words by eliciting them and drill after that they check determination, Scottish, aristocrat,fictional,majesty and mystery. Ss pair check. T monitors to see if there are any problem in understanding compares answers in pairs before checking with the whole class.

controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Task 3: T gives Ss handouts with some phrases about Count Von Kramm. Ss read the sentences then put true or false. Ss work in pairs or groups and discuss. T monitors and assists when necessary and then gets FBK.

post reading • speaking practice

T asks students to work in groups to describe the king under the heading : *Physical appearance . *Clothes. *Facial features. *Character. T asks students to discuss and use the prompts to describe the king of Bohemia with a partner.

Free practice • Writing

T asks Ss to write a short article about the king of Bohemia. Ss work individual then compare their writing together .while writing teacher try to help the students to correct any spelling of the words.
