Description

In this lesson, ss read movie synopses to answer gist and specific information. Firstly, ss remember as many types of films as they can, then they match movie posters to the type of movie. T pre-teaches some vocabulary items related to the text then ss read for gist then for specific information. At the end, ss write movie summaries or synopses like the model they have in the reading text. Then they read each other's synopses and vote on the most interesting movie.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks ss if they like to watch films, then splits ss into groups. Ss come to the board and try to write as many types of movies. T can help by eliciting more by giving examples from Arabc movies. Then ss match four movie posters with their types from the board. o/c feedback

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows pics of some of her favorite movies to elicit the following words "ancient temple, nightmare, craze, orphanage, trap" T does MPF

While-Reading #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading/ tasks

Ss read the text then they do ex. A individually then pair check then o/c feedback

While-Reading #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with specific information reading tasks

Ss read ex. B in 30 seconds then they go back to the text then they answer the questions in pairs. o/c feedback. same steps are repeated for ex. C

Post-Reading (10-20 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T puts ss into groups and explains that they are now working for IMDB and the have posters for films but without description. They should guess the type of the film, story, timing based on the poster and name of the film.. T gives each grp a sheet of words to help them describe the story. Tell ss that they should try to make the description very interesting so that the visitors of the website want to see the film. Then ss publish their writing to vote on the film that they really want to see and to underline any mistakes they can see. Grps get their newspaper sheets again to discuss with the other grps the mistakes then write a 2nd draft after correction then publish again. T takes votes on the most interesting film.
