Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about rules and freedom.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a rule

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T. asks Ss to think of the laws that annoy them in their country, work,...etc. -Ss. express their ideas.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T. sets context to pre-teach some vocab like" ridiculously, announcements, board" -T. highlights MPF

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

-T. tells Ss to listen to 6 different people complaining about different rules. -Ss. listen carefully and take notes on each person and the rule that annoys him/her. -Ss follow the first example. -Ss. revise answers together. - T. elicits answers.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

- T. asks Ss to read ex 3 and try to match the two halves. -Ss. listen again to check their answers. -Ss. revise answers in pairs. -T. elicits answers from Ss.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Ss work in pairs. -Ss discuss which of the mentioned rules are annoying to them and state the reason. -Ss. discuss in pairs what laws annoy them in their country and say why they disagree with them. Ss also try to find solutions for these annoying rules. -Ss change pairs to share more ideas.
