Description

In this lesson, the students learn some new vocabularies about food and restaurants through a reading text. The lesson starts with a discussion about their favorite kinds of food. I will show them some pictures and ask them about what they can see in every picture and how they feel about it. Then, I will pre teach them some new vocabularies. After that, they will read the text for gist, and they read it again for details. Finally, they will have a discussion about a restaurant that they want to open.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of food.
  • To provide review and practice of food words in the context of food.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show the students some pictures of different kinds of food and I will ask them about what they can see in every picture and how they feel about them to start a discussion about their favorite kinds of food and the restaurants that they like. I will show them a picture of a hamburger, pasta, chocolate, sea food, and pizza, and they will share their ideas about them with their colleagues

Pre-Reading (13-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will pre teach them some new vocabularies about food that will help them understanding the text. They will match the words with their pictures. Then, they will check their answers in pairs. Then, I will check the answers with the; I will use some CCQs to check their understanding. Then; the students will repeat the words after me. Finally, I will write the words on the board and highlight the stress in every word.

While-Reading #1 (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

They will read a text about food and restaurants, and they will choose the restaurant that they want to visit according to their favorite kinds of food. They will discuss their answers in pairs. Then, I will discuss the answers with them.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

They will read the text again and answer some questions about the restaurant. Then, they will check their answers in pairs, and after that, I will check the answers with them.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will have discussions in groups about a restaurant that they are going to open. They will choose a name and a place for their restaurants, and they will discuss the different kinds of food that they will serve in their restaurant.

Feedback (2-5 minutes) • To provide students with correction for their mistakes

I will write some sentences with mistakes on the board. I will ask the students to identify the mistakes and correct them.
