Description

In this lesson students will learn how to speak about modern objects and traditional objects using the past simple tense and the present simple tense in the context of comparing some modern objects with traditional ones . In addition they are going to speak about the use and the importance of some objects nowadays and in the past .

Main Aims

  • To provide scan, detailed, deduction and inference reading practice using a text about Modern and traditional objects in the context of Today's and 1900 lifes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Adescission about the differences between today's life and 1900 life in the context of Modern and traditional objects and their use and importance

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to draw two pictures on the board . The first will be a picture of a modern cellphone and the other will be a picture of a traditional telephone . Then I am going to encourage them making a comparison between the two objects .

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I am going to start this stage by giving students some handouts inwhich there are some modern and some traditional objects and ask them to match every word with its picture . Then I will ask them to circle the traditional ones . Then I am going to ask them to put modern ones in acolumn and traditional ones in another . After that I will ask them to put all of these objects in order according to their importance . Finally , I am going to use this pattern ..... ( In the past people used the ............... , but today we use ..............) . ex : In the past people used traditional fans , but today we use air conditioning .

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

By asking students to go throw the passage quickly and find three traditional objects and three modern ones .

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I am going to ask students to answer exercise number four , page eighty one in student's book ( Cutting edge - pre intermediate ) individually then check their answers in pairs before answering them with the hole class .

Post-Reading/Listening (7-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

By asking students to answer exercise number 6 , page 81 then encouraging them to speak freely in this topic and giving them help when needed .
