Description

In this lesson SS learn about the nature and gig questions facing modern medical science. T will start with the lead-in . T will show some picture on the projector or on the WB and SS talk about them in 2 minutes. T will unblock key lexis needed to help SS complete the next task. SS will read to answer the gist question to get an overview of the text, then SS will read for specific information (scanning) to familiarize learners with the text. SS will read again for detailed comprehension to under stand the text in depth . SS will read again for inferred meaning to understand the text in more depth. Ss will speak with each other to give an opportunity to react to the text, develop oral fluency of the topic and provide an opportunity to personalize the topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan, detailed, deduction and inference reading practice using a text about nature in the context of modern medical science

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of eradication, cloning and stem cells in the context of modern medical science

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show some pictures that have modern medical science. SS will talk about these pictures. This will be in pairs. T will listen to some of them.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will give the SS guided discovery HO for SS to answer. SS will answer, check in pairs, and the teacher will give WCFB. As a WC, SS will conver meaning, form and pronunciation, of the blocking vocab for clarification.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will give the SS the text to read and ask them to read quickly T will choose one title for each paragraph. SS check in pairs. T will give WCFB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T Will give the SS HO containing questions to answer by scanning for speific information. This will help familiarize SS with the text. SS will peer-check answers in pairs and T will give WCFB.

Reading for detail (7-10 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension

SS will be handed HOs with questions for detailed comprehension. SS will read in depth to answer the questions. SS will work in pairs for peer-checking . T will give WCFB.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will ask the SS to talk and discuss the following: "What would life be if people were immortal living without diseases? As a WC, SS will share the ideas.
