Description

In this lesson Ss will practise listening skill in order to be introduced to the main aim of this lesson, that is, causative form of have or the so called have something done. Ss will first be introduced to the topic of the lesson looking at some before and after pictures of two different people. Then they will be introduced to the target language of this lesson via listening to an audio related to the topic of style. After the teacher will provide the students with a detailed clarification of the target language. finally, they will do some controlled and freer practice in order to use the target language of the lesson, that is, have something done.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and controlled practice of the causative form of have or the so called have something done in the context of style.

  • To practise listening in order to be introduced to the target lesson of the cusative form of have in the context of style.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss two before and after pictures of two different people. T and Ss discuss the differences between the two pictures.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T displays two before and after photos of two people Tony and Marilyn who took part in a TV programme called ten years younger. T asks students to discuss in pairs the difference between the two photos. T asks Ss to guess the age of Tony and Marilyn. Ss share their answers. T " listen to the following audio of a discussion of two friends discussing the TV programme and check your answers." Ss listen to the audio. Discussion. Feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T asks Ss to make some sentences usingsome given words and phrases to describe what Tony and marilyn had done. Ss share their answers with their partners. Ss listen again to the audio and check their sentences. feedback.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T marks two sentences on WB: Tony cut his hair. Tony had his hair cut. T "work with your partner to answer the following question: who did cut tony's hair in each of the two sentences?." Ss answer the question. Meaning: CCQs: who did cut tony's hair in the first sentense? Tony Who did cut tony's hair in the second sentense? we do not know/ may be the hairdresser. Feedback. Form: T elicits the form Error correction. Feedback. Pronunciation: T drills the sentence model: Tony had his hair cut. Error correction.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T chests a handout of a practice exercise. T" work individually to complete the following sentences with the correct verb forms." ICQs: are you going to work individually or with your partner? individually. T gives the handout. Ss do the exercise individually. T monitors. Ss share their answers. T projects the answer key. Error correction. Feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T chests a made handout of a chart of two colunms one column is for things students do by themselves and the second column is for things that have done for them by someone. T asks Ss to work individually and fill in the chart using sentences. Ss do individually the activity. T monitors. In a group discussion Ss share their answers with the Ss of the class. Feedback.
