Description

In this lesson, students will practice reading for gist and search for specific information. The lesson starts with a lead in, in which; the teacher shows some pictures of three Egyptians drama and ask students to choose the best one with saying the reason for this choice. Then pre-teaching vocabulary to clarify unknown vocab for the students. And then the teacher gives the students some questions to answer to prepare them to read. In while reading stage, the students will read for gist first and answer some questions. In the last stage of the lesson, the students will speak together to discuss and find the end of this drama show.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-9 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows the students pictures about three Egyptians drama shows. And then ask them which one do they prefer the most and ask them for the reason.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • to clarify the new vocabulary in text

The teacher shows the students some pictures for the new vocabs in the text that may block their understanding. The teacher puts the pictures on the board and asks the students (in raw) to go to the board and match these pictures with the new words on the board. Then the teacher uses CCQS for these words to make sure that they have got the meaning. Then the teacher drills the word and to check the pronunciation of the students.

Pre-reading (10-12 minutes) • to prepare the students for the reading passage and to attract their attention

The teacher tells the students that it is a drama show about a family which runs a restaurant. The teacher gives the students some questions about the reading passage to attract their attention and make them interested in the context of the lesson. The students discuss in groups to find the answers to these questions. Then the teacher takes feedback.

While reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide clarification of vocabulary and further understanding of the reading.

The teacher asks the students to read only the first paragraph of the article and fill in the gaps.Then students check in pairs. The teacher gives the feedback using the data show.

While reading #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide clarification of vocabulary and further understanding of the reading in more details.

The teacher asks the students to read the full article and find the answer to these questions. Students work in pairs and then get the feedback with the whole class.

post-reading (15-17 minutes) • to give the students a chance to speak

The teacher divides the students into groups and asks them to discuss together and decide what the end of this drama show is.
