Description

In this lesson, the students learn "will and would", "used to" and annoying habits through a reading text. They learn through guided discovery and are guven exercises to clarify the usage of the present and past habits.

Materials

Abc gap-fill, listening to the tape script, make sentences

Main Aims

  • To provide the clarification of the use of "used to", "will & would"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the Ss use the grammatical structures they learned and speak using them.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T tells the Ss to talk with their partner about some occasions they have been to and actually did not like being there and got annoyed of something which happened.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T gives the Ss an activity in which they will listen to the tape script and fill in the gaps. after they have finished and filled in the gaps T will ask the Ss how did the woman express her feelings?which verb structure does she use? and try to elicit the answer from them.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will give the students HO in which the language will be clarified and they have to choose the correct answer and write down the form.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T clarifies "will and would" and "used to" and tell the Ss they can use will to show annoyance.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives the Ss an exercise so that they can practice the grammar information they got using the exercise. and then check in pairs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T will give the Ss HO as a semi-controlled practice so that they change the verbs from present simple to "will/'ll".

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T tells the Ss to discuss with their partner about their own past habits and then get a WCFB.
