Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using an interview about the movies in the context of talking about opinions on different movies. In the freer practice session get ss talk about their favorite movies with their partners.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification for some useful nouns and adjectives to talk about the types of the movies and to describe a movie and get ss ready for the listening section.

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show them the pictures of three famous actors and the actress one is John Travolta the other one is Jackie Chen and the last one is Angelina Jolie. Let them talk about these actors and the actress to have them speak about the movies they acted in.

pre-teaching vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

I will show ss on the board 8 pictures of the different movies on the board to elicit them the types of the movies. I will lead them in by talking the typical ingredients that we need for making pide.so as to make a horror film we need: blood, an evil person or monster, a beautiful girl alone, etc. I'm going to teach ss the form meaning pronunciations of some key vocabularies ss might encounter in the listening.such as the common types of the movies and the basic adjectives that we use to talk about movies. FMP and FB.

Pre-Listening (3-5 minutes) • to provide the students with prior knowledge about the listening.

I will ask them to check the movie lists and discuss what they know about the movies. After that ask them what they will hear about with the 10 statements below. At the end, I'll ask them to guess which of the opinions in Ex3 they feel most applies to which film.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

I'll play the record for the first time to get them check their guessings about the films with the opinions with their partners. If they have problems with making sure about their answers I will play the record for the second time. Then do a W/C FB and help ss meanings of some unfamiliar words and pronunciation.

While-Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

I'll get them to do a T/F questions to find more details about the listening. I'll play the record for the last time to check their answers and give them feedback. At the end within-pair, ss will ask and answer questions about the listening to check their whole understanding about the listening.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I'll write the adjective words: sad, exciting, violent, clever, funny, scary, romantic, happy, interesting, etc. After that within the group, I get them write 2-3 sentences to describe a movie once they finish swap the paper with the partner and let him/her guess the name of the movie is described. At the end, I'll have them talk about what films they like and don't like and why? Model them: I don't like horror films because they're usually scary and violent. FB and IEC/DEC with the adjectives they use.
