Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a picture of the album cover, which shows the singer, album title, song title. I will give them a few ideas to discuss such as the look of the artist, what they think he does, the names, when it took place, etc.

Pre-Listening (5-7 minutes) • Pre-Teach vocab/pron

Aim of this stage will be to teach the informal pronunciation of words ending in -ing. I will start by eliciting the 4 such words in the lyrics and drilling the pronunciation. Pass out the quick activity to do with a partner. Point out exceptions to this, specifically single syllable words ending in -ing. ex: ring, sing, king, ping, thing Show them the Picture of these and have them discuss these with a partner and why they think yes or no.

While-Listening #1 (11-13 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Instruct students they are to listen to the song for gist and answer the questions about the song. (PP Slide) Have them feedback with a partner. HO the lyrics fill out and listen again. Answer key for feedback.

While-Listening #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging listening task

Pass out envelopes of images and have pairs place them in order of the song. Afterwards have them check with peers for correct order

Post-Listening (12-14 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The aim of this exercise is to get them to use present progressive tense, thus applying the informal pronunciation. Students will be split into two group, with one group facing the board. They will watch the video and relay to their partner what they are seeing. (information gap) They will need to mark down ten observations of the video. Then, they will switch and the goal is to make an additional 10 comments, different from the first 10. Feedback by swapping with a neighboring group if time allows.
