Description

In this lesson Ss will practise the speaking skill in order to develop their oral fluency. Ss will first be iontroduced to the topic of the lesson discussing the meaning of a Turkish proverb and talk about other examples of proverbs that they may know.Ss will be doing most of the activities in pairs and in groups in order to keep it Ss centred and for the sake of peer teaching. Finally, there is a speaking task based on a whole class discussion.

Main Aims

  • To provide a fluency practice for students in the context of proverbs.

  • Introduce students to some new vocabulary related to the topic of childhood.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T displays a famous Turkish proverb. T and Ss discuss the meaning of this proverb. T gives examples of other proverbs in other countries.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T provides Ss with other examples of Proverbs. T elicits the meaning of the word proverb. T clarifies the proverb meaning. Ss give some examples of proverbs they know. T and SS discuss the meaning of those proverbs.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T gives Ss a matching handout of some proverbs and statments of their meanings. T points to Ss to correct each statment based on the first example. Ss correct individually the mistake of each statement. T gives Ss feedback on tha task. Ss match each proverb to the right meaning statement. Ss check in pairs their answers. T provides Ss with the answer key. T gives feedback on Ss work. T highlights the form of if and unless clauses with present simple.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T asks students to work in pairs and think of other proverbs they have in their own language and their meanings. Ss say the proverbs in english and provide the meaning of each proverb using if/ unless. T takes notes of Ss errors.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T corrects Ss' errors. T provides Ss with an oral feedback on their outcome. T gives Ss some english proverbs and ask them to work in pairs to guess each proverb's meaning. T and Ss discuss the proverbs meaning
