In this lesson SS will practice on their reading skills. First they are going to read about Glastonbury festival facts for gist and then they`ll read for detail and after that for specific information on a text based on people who went to the Glastonbury festival. There is a freer practice which will help SS to personalize the lesson.

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about the Glastonbury Festival

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice in the context of festivals

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks SS what kind of music they like?(work in pairs-WCFB ask a SS what his partner said) T asks how they like to listen to music? (on phone, in car or at live concerts)

Pre-Reading/Prediction Task (8-10 minutes) • To encourage students to think about the context and give them a reason to read the text. And clarify blocking vocab.

While SS are talking T writes festival and artist names which come to Glastonbury. T will ask SS to talk to peers and guess what the words are about. T will show Glastonbury festival video. WCFB from a SS or two.CCQ(So what were these words about? Did you guess right?) T will write down blocking vocab and explain meaning, support with CCQ`s and practice pronunciation.

While-Reading (Gist) (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading task

T will show first HO. Chest it and tells SS to read the facts side of the paper. T will instruct SS to read the questions first and tell then to read the text quickly. (2min) T pairs SS to let them discuss their answers for the questions (30sec) T will ask random SS what their answers were.

While-Reading(Specific Info-Detail) (18-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, searching for specific info reading tasks

T will ask SS to look at the reading material again turn to the experience part. T will instruct SS to read the questions before reading the text, gives new HO(4mins) Setting the SS in pairs(regroup), T will ask SS to talk to their partner about the first bit of questions. For FB, T will have the answers to the questions on pieces of papers. T will ask random SS in pairs to come up to look at the papers and put them under the corresponding name on the WB. For the second reading T will tell the SS to read the True/False statements before reading again(4mins) T will regroup the SS again and ask them to talk about their answers with their pairs. T will conduct WCFB

Post-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask SS; Whether they had a similar experience like the festival. Why so many bands play there. If they would like to Glastonbury.
