Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about the Superlative Adjectives through guided discovery approach based on a reading text. The lesson starts with an activity called 'World Records-Matching game'. There is gist and scan reading task. Following that there will be grammar based exercises. Finally, there is some controlled practice and freer practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with clarification, review, and practice of ''suparlative adjectives'

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information reading practice using a text about a vehicle.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will hang pictures on the board. T will divide the whole class into two separate teams. One of the group members will race with the other one of the group member at a time. T will tell the 'description of the picture' and who finds it first on the board will bring his/her team a point. Picture Descriptions: The tallest man The largest country The tallest building The shortest man The most wacthed video The biggest ice-cream The craziest person The most poweful hero The most expensive car The most beautiful heroine

Reading Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1)T will give them the text about the biggest vehicle on earth. Ss will read the text for gist and they will chosse the main idea about the text. Give them ICQs before the task Are we reading it for details? No. Are we reading slow?No. 2)T will give another exercise where this time they will scan read the text and answer the question given. Give ICQ's Are we reading for something special? Yes. Do ı need to read all the words? No. They will check in pairs their answers. 3)Do WC feedback

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will tell them to get up and tell them to stand accordingly to their height. Choosing the tallest and shortest by eliciting from the Ss. If the class is too crowded ask their height instead of standing up.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1) T will give them the guided discovery sheet. They will answer the question in pairs. They will have three minutes. ICQs: Are we doing it alone? No. How many minutes? Three. 2)T will elicit from the students and write on the board the form. 3) T will elicit the meaning from the Ss. 4) T will show the pronunciation and drill with the class.

Language practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1)T will tell them to write three sentences about Heikki Reijonen's car. Use superlatives. Example: It's the largest car in the World. 2) If there is time give them three question and let them talk in pairs about them. T will monitor. *Which do you think is the worse film in the World? *Which animal do you think is the fastest in the World? Who do you think was the best teacher in ITI? 3)Give them delayed feedback.
