Present tense with (if,when,before and after)
Pre-intermediate (B1) level

Description

In this lesson the students will learn about how to use the Present tense with (if,before,when and after). I will start the lesson with a quick warm up activity. I will give each student a set of papers every two papers form on correct sentence. In three minutes students have to match these papers together in order to form a correct sentence. After that i will ask students a question in order to make them elicit the concept briefly, then i will start explain the rules effectively. Students will listen to audio and fill the missing gaps,then they will move to controlled activity and answer an exercise. Finally they will move to free practice and form their own sentences by using the structure that they have learned.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Present simple tense in the context of Old and new

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Correct forms of the verbs in the context of Old and new

Procedure

Warm up/lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context of the lesson , engage students and generate interests

In this stage I'm gonna present some pictures, Ss have to describe these pictures and discuss about the best place to build the hotel. After that i will form a sentence and write down it on the board. This sentence includes the language focus of the target language "if they build a hotel here, it will be perfect" that will help me to move smoothly through my lesson.

Language focus (5-10 minutes) • To provide clarification, form and pronunciation of the TL in the context of "Old and new"

In this stage I'm gonna make it as a game and give students a set of papers each two papers form one correct sentence, then they start searching in order to match these parts correctly while that the teacher will monitor them and provide them with help if they need. After that I'm going to write down these sentences on the board and explain it effectively in order to insure that they have comprehend the form , then i will drill that and ask students to put these time words in the middel of the sentence.

Listening (4-6 minutes) • To provide listening for specific information about tenses with time words

In this stage, student will listen to an audio and complete the gaps with the correct form of the verbs in brackets, but before the are moving to listening i will give the a couple of minutes to guess the suitable answer. Then they will move to listening part and complete these gaps correctly

Controlled practice (3-6 minutes) • To provide practice and concept checking of the target language and prepare students to more freer activity.

In this stage I'm gonna set the context and give a clear instructions about what will they do in this activity, then i will give students 3 minutes to answer this activity and during that the teacher will monitor them and support them with help if it is necessary. Finally they will check in pair their answers and teacher give them a feedback.

Free activity (6-7 minutes) • To provide accurate writing of the TL about tenses with time words

In this stage i will ask students to write down at least four sentences using different time words . Students will compare their sentences together and teacher monitors and records any errors to deal with it later.
