Quiz Night, Listening

Description

In this lesson, Ss will listen to a quiz show which has comparative sentences. The lesson will start by doing prediction and will follow with gist and specific listening tasks. They will also have vocabulary study related to the listening text.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific listening practice using a text about quiz show

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of vocabulary in the context of quiz show

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To activate Ss' existing knowledge of the topic,some contest examples will be reflected on the WB. So they will think about the content of the listening task.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss will be given teacher made hand outs for the vocabulary study in the form of matching pictures with words. So ss will not have difficulty in listening task.

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will have a hand out about the questions that they listen to. While listening for details, they need to answer the questions and then check the answers with their partners.

While Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Ss in pairs, will look at the sentences from Quiz night and then write T/F while listening for details.

PostNListening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will listen the contest again to identify and write isolated pieces of information to the HO's. Ss will discuss questions together and are followed by feedback.
