Description

In this lesson, ss read fr gist and specific information. Then, they learn collocations related to the internet to be used accurately and fluently. At the end of the session, ss do a group speaking activity using the TL they have learned.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of collocations related to the internet

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about the google guys
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a group work in the context of internet use

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss are shown pics of Steve jobs, Mark Zucherberg and Bill Gates and are given time to discuss in pairs who they are and what they did. o/c feedback

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a reading text

T pre-teaches the word (launch) through a picture. Then T directs ss to the text on p. 48& 49. They read the headlines in ex. 2b first then read the text to match the headlines to the paragraphs in two minutes in pairs.o/c feedback. Then ss read ex. 2c in 30 seconds then scan the text to answer these questions in 3 minutes.

Test #1 (2-4 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ss pair up for a competition where ss do ex. 1a correctly under 2 minutes. The pair with the most correct answers is the winner. o/c feedback. T confirms answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T quickly goes through the meaning, pronunciation and form of the TL.

Test #2 (3-5 minutes) • To check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss again compete to complete ex. 1 in the workbook in less than 2 minutes. o/c feedback. T confirms answers.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In groups, Ss pretend to be a software company making a new application for mobiles and internet. Ss should prepare a name for their application, a logo and what a very brief description of what it does on newspaper sheet. Then each group talks about their application. Ss vote on the best app. Content/ language feedback.
