Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a Society and change topic

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T. shows Ss two pictures of the society in the past and now -T. asks Ss what do they think of these two pictures -T. elicits answers from Ss

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T. uses the two pictures to pre-teach vocabulary like" increase-decrease- deteriorate- economy- unemployment" -T. also uses other pictures, situations and antonyms to elicit the target language.

Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T. asks Ss to listen to 10 small tracks talking about different topics in the society. -T. asks Ss to listen and choose the best answer "N.P no one is done as an example so the teacher can use it to demonstrate if the Ss do not understand the task well". -T. plays the track twice -T. asks students to revise their answers in pairs. -T. provides Ss with the correct answer.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T. divides the board in to three categorize -T. divides the class in to two groups and gives each group some cards written on them the verb, noun and adjectives of some words like decrease,economy ...etc -T. asks them to categorize the words -T. does the first one as an example. -T . monitors .T. provides Ss with the answers -T. highlights the Stress n some words that Ss might mispronounce them -T. models and drills

Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T. gives the whole class some cards and asks them to categorize these cards which means increase and which means decrease. -T divides the class into two groups and gives them a handout to practice the TL. -T. highlights that Ss might change the verb conjugation to suit the tense of the text . -N.p the first one is done as an example -T. asks Ss to revise answers together -T. monitors -T. provides the Ss with the correct answer

Free Practice (8-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T. writes this topic on board" Geniuses should not get married" -T. asks Ss. their opinion -T. asks Ss to talk together to share their ideas. -T. highlights that they should use the TL. to express their opinion. -T. monitors and takes notes. -T. writes the most common mistakes on board to be corrected focusing on the TL -
