In this lesson, I will clarify past modals as a review. I will provide Ss with controlled and free practice. Students will also practice the pronouncing sentences with past modals.

Main Aims

Lead in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask SS about what the lesson was about with Mr mohammad, I will do a review to refresh students’’ memory and check their understanding of the lesson. I will elicit the past modal and their use and form from students. If Ss have some confusion I will explain briefly and ask CCQs for each past modal.

Controlled Practice (16-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging tasks on the TL

I will chest the gap filling exercise 1 and ask students to work individually and fill the gaps with the appropriate past modals and the correct form of the verbs between the brackets. ICQs: Will you write only the verb in the right form? No Should you write the past modal? Yes I will ask students to check their answers in pairs then I will provide them with an answer key. I will show the students exercise number 2, I will tell them that the need to match the recordings they will listen to with the situations written in the exercise. They will listen to the audio once and answer match the sentences with the number of the tracks. ICQs: What are you going to match the tracks numbers with? (Situations from the exercise) Students will finish and check their answers in pairs I will give students a pronunciation exercise in order to practice their pronunciation. I will explain that the bald words and syllables are stressed and the others are weak. I will play each sentence and ask students to repeat each sentence. I will ask SS to listen to another audio and write the eight sentences they hear. When they write them they will discuss in pairs which words are stressed and try to repeat the sentences to each other.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide fluency for the students to use the TL

I will regroup students so every student will get to work with a new partner. I will model a personal story using TL. I will ask students to work in pairs and speak about their past using past modals. ICQs will you talk about your personal experience? yes Will you use past modals? yes I will monitor and note down errors to correct by the end of the lesson.
