Main Aims

  • The main focus of this lesson is on the simplest use of ''Present Continuous( interrogation)'' which is to talk about things that are in some way in progress now/ presently/ currently/ at the moment.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening to introduce the target language.

Procedure

Building context (4-5 minutes) • To engage students and generate interest in listening

- Previous T has already set the context of grammar, and I have the second lesson. I will follow her lead-in. -T," So how are your holidays?" (Great?) “I have fun on my holidays. I go with my family. I go and see a lot of places, try new food and do shopping. I have a lot of fun and I relax and sleep a lot." “Now, talk to your partner and discuss how they feel on a holiday? You have 2 minutes." - ICQs, “who will you talk to?"(partner) “How much time?" (2 min) -SS will discuss how they feel on a holiday. - T will ask any one SS for FB.

Listening task (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the target language via listening to an audio about Nigel on holiday.

- T will put Nigel's picture on the WB with OHP. " This is Nigel and he's on a holiday. Listen and check, ' Does he have a good time?'" - T will write on the WB, “Does Nigel have a good time?" - ICQs: "will we listen or read?" (listen) “Who will we listen to?" (Nigel) - SS will listen and then think Does Nigel have a good time? -WCFB,T will ask three SS for feedback. “What do you think?"

Highlight Target language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight the target language by listening to the context

- T will play the recording again and chest HO. - T " Now let’s listen once more and fill the gaps." - ICQS, “what will you do?"(listen) “will we fill gaps while listening or after listening?"(while listening) “Will you do it alone?"(alone) - T will put on the recording. - T will stop after 'Are you staying in a hotel? Just to check if SS are on track and Check the answers from SS. then continue with the recording. - SS will do it alone. - Check in pairs. - WCFB .T will give markers to the SS to write the correct answer on the WB.

Clarifying the target language (19-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning /model and highlight the form of the target language

-T will use two marker sentences to clarify the meaning/form and pronunciation of two question sentences. T will elicit the form from the SS. 1. Are they having good time? 2. Where are they staying? -Form: (?) am/is/are(verb of BE)+ subj+ V-ing (W/H) + verb of BE+ Subj+ V-ing -CCQS: " Do they have a good time?" (good time) “Has the good time stopped?” (NO) “Is the good time now or tom?" (now) “Is it about Now or tomorrow?' (Now) “Is it about past or present?" (present) - SS will identify the form on the WB. -T will chest HO, for meaning and form clarification. - T," now let’s do Q1. There are 5 questions, do it in 4 min. alone please." ICQS," How much time?" (4 min) “How many Qs?"(5) " Will you do it alone or partner?" (alone) -T," now, Check with your partner." -T will project the questions on the WB with OHP. SS will come on the board and write the correct answers. - WCFB. - T," now let’s do Q2. There are 2 questions and do it in 3 min. alone please." ICQS," How much time?" (5 min) “How many Qs?"(2) " Will you do it alone or with partner?" (alone) -T," now, Check and work together." -T will project the questions on the WB with OHP. SS will come on the board and write the correct answers. - WCFB. -T” These are jumbled sentences. you have to make the correct questions. I'll do the first example on the board. 7 questions and 5 min." ICQS," How much time?" (5 min) “How many Qs?"(7) " Will you do it alone?" (alone) -T," now, Check and work together." -T will project the questions on the WB with OHP. SS will come on the board and write the correct answers. - WCFB.

language practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide semi controlled activity to focus on the fluency of the target language

language practice To provide semi controlled activity to focus on the fluency of the target language - T will give picture and give a set of questions(HO) to SS to ask each other questions about the picture with each other for 4 min." ICQs," Will you talk about yourself or the picture. (picture) “Will you talk about one question or 4 Qs?"(4QS) “Will you talk alone or with everyone?"(partner) “How much time?"(4 min) -T will monitor. - WCFB *Incase we have free time:(The teacher then provides the learners with a fun activity in which she uses an entertaining miming game to teach or review the 'Present Continuous Tense'. She takes a card and mimes the action in front of the class (without speaking). The first student to say her action a full sentence (e.g. “You are eating chicken!”) is the winner. The teacher breaks them up into two separate groups. Teams take turns playing. A student comes up and asks the class 'What am I doing?' The student then does the mime on the card. When a member on either team thinks they know, they respond 'You are verb+ing…' The students must guess the exact words on the mime card to win. The first team to guess the sentence wins a point.)

Feedback • To correct some of the target language related errors

-T will monitor and write the errors on the board. -elicit the correct answer from the SS otherwise do it herself.
