Description

In this lesson students learn about the verb be, positive form and subject pronouns: I, You, etc. They learn days of the week and numbers 0-20, greetings in the vocabulary section. In the pronunciation part they learn vowel sounds and word stress.

Main Aims

  • To provide review of the verb to be in the context of an introductory listening.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of numbers 0-20 and days of the week.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Books closed, T pre-teach the first conversation in a by introducing herself/himself.T says Hi/ Hello, I'm ... ans ask some Ss what's your name? and she/he pretends sometimes not to have heard them properly and say Sorry? Then T asks Ss to do the same in pairs and after that for the feedback asks a pair to tell their conversation loud for the whole class.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Books open,T shows the pic and brainstorm Ss's ideas about the topic.Then she asks Ss to listen to the audio and number each pic accordingly. Then T asks Ss to compare their answers together if necessary T play the audio again.Check the answers in the whole class. T plays the audio again asks Ss to complete the gaps. Ss check their answers in pairs then in the whole class.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T draw Ss's attention to the sentences of the conversation and elicit the grammar rules.

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T explain that I'm Mike is the contraction of I am Mike. Then give Ss some min to fill in the blanks and check answers. T refer to p.124 Gr bank and clarifies the meaning, form and usage of the target language. Then through CCQs check Ss's understanding of the grammar part.

Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T asks Ss to do the activities and compare their answers in pairs. Then T check the answers in the whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T asks Ss to do E.c and d.

Free Practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives instruction for the E.f and asks them to do it.

Pronunciation (6-7 minutes) • To provide Ss with vowel sounds and word stress

T explains vowel sounds and word stress to Ss through activities on p5.

Vocabulary (10-11 minutes) • To provide Ss with days of the week and numbers 0-20.

T connects the vocab part to the previous section by the question on p5 and then presents the words through the following activities and vocabulary bank on p 148. Ss in pair will practice the words.

Vocab Practice (5-6 minutes) • To provide the Ss with an opportunity to practice the vocabulary.

Ss will do the exercise on p5 and check in pairs and then in the whole class.

Listening and Speaking1 (10-11 minutes) • To provide the Ss with an opportunity to practice the target language.

Ss will listen to the audio and complete the gaps with required information. In each part, first Ss check their answers in pairs then in the whole class. they will do E.a&b.

Listening and Speaking2 (10-10 minutes) • To provide the Ss with an opportunity to improve their listening and the vocabulary.

Ss will do the E.c on p5. check their answers in the whole class. Then they need to role play in pairs.
