Description

In this lesson, Ss will read a passage about technology and also practise lexis. They will work in groups and compete with each other at the end of the lesson.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets the Ss and shows pictures of different technological devices. T asks: "Do you love technology?" "Which one is your favorite?" After they answer, she asks another question: " Which one was your favorite when you were a little kid?" " When I was a child, my father used to buy everything I wanted."" Did your father use to buy these things for you?"

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T shows another picture of a father and a son to elicit the context and asks: "What's the matter between them?" "Discuss with your partner and then tell me please." Ss try to answer and after that T shows the reason of the problem between them. While talking, T tries to elicit the blocking words in the text.

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T gives instructions. "There are 6 paragraphs and 6 sentences." "Please read the text quickly and match the sentences with the paragraphs." "You have three minutes." ICQs: How much time? T gives a sheet including sentences which are taken out of the text. After they finish, PC. T shows the answer key on WB.

While-Reading#2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T writes three sentences on the board and shows three rules to complete. "Please look at these sentences and try to complete the rules. "Pair check please." T gives FB. After the feedback, T wants them to go back to the text and complete the summary in pairs. " Please read the text again and choose the best option." "There are three options and you will choose just one. You have 5 minutes." Ss check their answers in pairs. T shows the answer key.

Post-Reading (15-16 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T sticks the papers which include the verbs tell, say and ask and gives instructions. " You are going to make two lines. When I say a word, you will try to grab the correct verb from the board." In two groups, T lets them talk about the following questions. " What are the advantages and disadvantages of letting children have mobile phones?" " What is the ideal age to have a mobile?"
