In this lesson, students will learn about various adjectives for describing people and clothing pieces' names based on a picture of people wearing different clothes and has different facial expressions. First students will be tested on their knowledge of these words. Then students will practice with the new words they learn with a controlled practice task which will ask them to describe the people they choose.This activity will be followed by a freer practice in which they will describe their partners' appearance to other group members.


Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adjectives and clothing pieces' in the context of peoples' apperances

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of describing people


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will talk about his clothes and his physical appearance. Then, T will set the Ss in pairs and ask them to do the same with their partners.

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will hold HO on chest and show the three people and their different styles. T will ask Ss to find who is wearing which piece of clothing and write it down in the gaps. CCQ to check if Ss understand.(Are you going to write your friends name or one of these peoples` names?) After everyone is finished T will check meaning and form on WB and pronunciation with WC and as an introduction to the next phase clarification.

Teach (16-18 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T will tell the Ss to listen carefully and write down the names of which person is described. CCQ (Are you going to write clothes in the gaps?)-No. Then, T will conduct the listening activity. First pair check and WCFB. T follows up the FB by writing half modal sentences on the WB for the controlled practice 2. Students will be set in groups of 3-4. T will tell the students to describe someone from the picture and let their group members guess just like the listening. CCQ (Are you going to describe someone from your group or the picture?)-From the picture. T will monitor all through the process.

Test #2 (5-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

After the teaching phase T will hold new handout on chest and give instructions to the students to read the statements and decide whether they are true or false T will conduct WCFB by asking Ss what they answered and asking why they answered true or false.

Free practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For the freer practice T will regroup the Ss and ask them to take turns and choose anyone in the classroom and the other group members will ask yes/no questions in order to guess who was the chosen person. T will demonstrate with WC. And will monitor the process.
