Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the superlative adjectives through guided discovery based on a reading text about a survey done with Trip Advisor Website about cities. The lesson starts with a discussion about cities. This is followed by a reading text where the TL will be introduced, highlighted, and clarified. Finally, students will have to do some controlled, semi-controlled, and freer practice.

Procedure

lead in (4-6 minutes) • To generate interest in the context of the text.

-T asks questions. " do you like traveling? what is one of the coutries or cities you've been already to?" -T chests HO (ex1.a) -T gives instructions. " these are 5 pictures of cities and here are their names. match them in 2 mins" -Sts check in pairs. -Whole class discussion "in which country is this city? have you ever been to it? what do you know about it?

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the Target Language through a reading task

- T asks sts about Trip Advisor Website. -T chests HO (ex 1b) -T gives instructions " this article is about a survey done with the Trip Advisor Website on cities especially London" " you have 2 mins to read the text" - group discussion of the text (2 groups of 4) "do you agree/disagree and why?"

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students attention to the target language.

-T chests the HO (ex1,b) - T gives instructions " we have here 5 sentences with gaps, I want you to fill the gaps with the names of the cities that you think that the Trip Advisor Website has proved to be the most romantic/ cleanest.. city" " you have 3 mins" -Sts pair check - Sts write the answers on the board.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify meaning, form, and pronunciation of the Target Language

-T writes 3 model sentences on the WB -T asks sts questions to clarify the meaning. " what did you understand form this sentence? are we compari,g between 2 cities or more?" -T writes the use of the superlative adjectives on the WB. -T drills chorally the model sentences ( backchaining, showing the sentence stress) -T highlights the form of the model sentences on the WB

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T chests HO (ex1,d) -T gives instructions " put these superlative adjectives under the correct categorization" you have 4 mins. - sts pair check -T projects the key answer.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for freer practice

-T chests HO (ex 2,a) -T gives instructions. "underline the stressed syllable in these adjectives""you have 3 mins" -Sts pair check -sts write the word and underline it in the WB - T drills the words chorally. -T gives instructions. "stand up, choose a partner, ask each other these questions. I want answers with full sentences" -T monitors and writes down any errors - error correction on the WB

Freer Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide with free practice of the Target Language

-Sts divided into 2 groups -T gives instructions. " these are cards that have pictures of cities and adjectives. each student will have to choose a card , look at the picture and the adjective given with it and try to form a whole sentence by using these adj in the superlative form. take turns.
